If anyone else has used DVDFab Passkey, please post your experiences. Since most programs with official Blu-ray play back capabilities cost an arm and a leg (+HDCP and whatnot), I thought this would be some helpful info for anyone trying to watch Blu-ray discs on a computer.
The most difficult one so far was the Lion King, it took over 8 minutes(!) to circumvent the protection, but afterwards it played like a charm in VLC. I've tested a few discs so far from different publishers, and all seem to be working. When a Blu-ray is inserted, the program automatically starts decrypting/removing DRM from the disc (including the region restrictions, without copying any content to your HDD) and subsequently allows playback on your media player of choice. This small free (lite version) program allows you to not only play HDCP protected content over an analog cable, it allows you to use free media players to watch Blu-ray content, like everybody's favorite VLC media player.
So I searched for a method to play (not rip) HDCP protected content over a VGA cable and I came across DVDFab passkey lite. Windvd and Powerdvd won't display anything over VGA due to this protection. It can display its native res over VGA however, but most (if not all) Blu-ray discs are protected with HDCP, which makes it necessary to use a digital cable (HDMI, DVI) to watch your movies. As most HD-ready tv's, it's actual resolution is 1366*768, but it cant display this resolution over HDMI, just 720/1080p which looks pretty bad up/down-scaled.
